The day of the inspection was stressful. Because we do not often do the work that requires inspection, we don’t know what to expect. The plumber and electrician were on site because it is primarily their work that is being looked at. The inspector showed up two hours later than we expected, but it is normal in the business. The lateness is common because the arrival time is dependent on how efficiently and smoothly previous appointments go.
The inspector seemed pleased with the work and gave a few instructions about the upcoming work and left. It was a bit anticlimactic, but when you consider how difficult these things can be, that is much preferred to almost anything else.
We immediately began closing up the walls with drywall and a week later we were ready to begin the hard part of making the drywall smooth enough for painting.
We find ourselves needing to rearrange the typical order of the work in order to accommodate other trades and still stay on schedule. We had not planned on replacing the ducts but determined that it is going to be necessary (huge expense!). This is not something that you can do at your convenience at a later date. It is invasive and messy so it needs to be completed now. Because of the duct work, we cannot complete the ceilings. While we wait, we are moving forward with the walls. We will get part or all of the walls painted before the ceilings go up and this is not typical because of the mess of ceiling painting making its way onto the walls. The alternative is to wait on moving forward until the ducts are in and the ceiling is installed, but we don’t have time for that.
